Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 6/28/23

Dear SCC & Friends,

…where honor is due… ~Romans 13:7

Reflection #173

                 Honor means manifested esteem and calls for respect, appreciation and deference. Freedom is one of the deepest and noblest aspirations of the human spirit. ~Ronald Reagan~ If we learn anything from studying history, it’s that it is messy. Plum the depths of any past empire, ethnicity or culture and we will find the ruins of peoples and kingdoms that proved imperfect and fallible. I’ve yet to find a perfect marriage, yet marriage is to be honored by all. I’ve yet to find a perfect parent, yet parents are to be honored regardless of honorability… I’ve yet to find a perfect country but am grateful to honor the one I have. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. ~Prov. 14:34 Our nation remains a work in progress but is to be honored for what God has given us. We are ever to be mindful of the sovereignty of God in the affairs of men and nations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. ~Ps. 33:12a

 

                 Rendering of honor is a gift that elevates our love and appreciation. ~John Adams~ July 4th, celebrates the Declaration of Independence which anchors and proclaims our freedom. The Declaration is regarded as a preamble to our Constitution and sets the tone and purpose of our nation’s founding… When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness (or virtue)… words that remain the core principle of our nation… ever mindful that our endowment is from God alone. It is His mercy that sustains us… Made for these days… Keep up the good work!
