Dear SCC & Friends,
…Remember the days of old… ~Psalm 143:5
Reflection #168
Today’s moments are tomorrow’s memories. “Remember” occurs hundreds of times in Scripture and reminds us how easy it is to lapse into forgetfulness. Even when we break bread, we do it in remembrance of Him. …and we are to forget none of His benefits. ~Ps. 103:2 Memory is a gift which allows us to relive moments and call to remembrance our story with both God and man. We are exhorted to …have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. ~2 Cor. 8:21 Each year, Memorial Day is celebrated in the United States in commemoration of those who died in service to their country. It’s to be a special time of heartfelt appreciation and noble remembrance. We owe a debt of gratitude that can only be expressed but never repaid… The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing. ~Edmund Burke~ Thank God for those who rose to the occasion to protect and defend our posterity and godly principles. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord… ~Ps. 33:12
In the last century lives have ended in places called Belleau Wood, the Argonne, Omaha Beach, Salerno, and halfway around the world on Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Pork Chop Hill, The Chosin Reservoir, and hundreds of rice paddies and jungles in Vietnam. In our lifetime they fell in the Persian Gulf, Somalia, the mountains of Afghanistan, Fallujah, Ramadi, and on the streets of Baghdad. Arlington Cemetery in Virginia holds the final resting place of many men and women whose lives had yet to begin. The tomb of the Unknown Soldier holds the remains of four service members known only to God. They all gave the greatest sacrifice of all; their lives so we as Americans can live free as our creator intended. ~John Ubaldi, U.S. Marine~. Memorial Day is an ever-present reminder that freedom is not free… May we always remember the sacrifice of those who gave their all. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. ~Jn 15:13 We were made for these days… Keep up the good work!
We will remember,
Kevin
