SCC Covid-19 Update 4/8/2020

April 8, 2020

Dear SCC & Friends,

Update #5

A recent poster caught my eye: Wash your hands like you just got done slicing jalapeños for a batch of nachos, and you need to take your contacts out. Let’s continue to follow CDC guidelines and look for creative ways to stay in touch, reach out and redeem the time. So many of you have been doing a great job of both staying current with each other as well as reaching out to others. Our new normal has us examining and re-examining our lives and priorities. It’s a good reminder that some priorities never change such as to honor the Lord, seek first his kingdom and love Him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength.

It’s a time to be confident in Him who does all things well….Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.  Heb. 10:35-36 Confidence has great reward, but confidence is tested and re-tested in uncertain times like this. Endurance is not a gift, but the product of long obedience in same direction…and the plowman ought to plow in hope. 1st Cor. 9:10  Hope is our anchor, as we call to remembrance the passion of our Lord and His death, burial and resurrection. He is risen! He is risen indeed!

I am so very grateful to our medical community and the many essential workers who have put themselves at risk to provide goods and services at this time. I am also very grateful that our homes have roofs and running water…that we have electricity and bathroom facilities…that food is in the fridge…that the internet has helped keep us connected, that so many remain healthy and that we remain only a phone call away. I’d like to ask our church to join together in a fast of thanksgiving7:00 p.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. on Good Friday…a time of prayer, reflection and thankfulness for our families, church community, state and nation; especially for those serving at great risk for the sake of their neighbor and community.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  John 15:13

Blessings & love,

Kevin
