SCC Covid-19 Update 7/29/20

July 29, 2020

Dear SCC & Friends,

…that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ…~Pet. 1:7

Update #21

I have had the privilege of being on many missions in different parts of the world. In particular, SCC’s Mexico mission trips hold a special place, as we took teams of high school and college students for twenty summers. The trips were hard work and required time, money and energy. Each year we would close out our week with a two-hour shopping spree in Ensenada. My annual goal was to return with another “Rolex watch” at the unheard bargain price of $20. I still have a few if you are looking for one. In his book called Why Jesus, Ravi Zacharias, Christian apologist, talks about “genuine fakes” versus “fake fakes.” A “real” fake watch can tell time, project quality and enhance image, but it’s counterfeit. Counterfeit as a noun (person, place or thing) is defined as a fraud, sham, fake, imposter, bogus. Being fake by its very nature is unreal. It’s image over character, and it can be very difficult to discern between shadow and substance…It is difficult but not impossible.

The vacillating 24-hr. news cycle can be both confusing and exhausting. But there is news that doesn’t waiver, is accurate and is eternal. It is Good News…The Gospel. God has called us to represent His authentic goodness and love in a lost and dying world. We are securely anchored in hope, living by faith through love. There is nothing fake about the Author and Finisher of our faith. He is the Alpha and Omega and watches over us day and night. Jesus will never leave or forsake us, especially in times of uncertainty and despair. We are not to be “real fakes” or “fake fakes.” Prov. 3:3-6 speaks to us in these challenging times…Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Keep up the good work, using your best opportunities to reach out and bless those around you. Your prayers make a huge difference in every situation…Let’s stand firm in His truth and grace. The integrity of the upright will guide them…~Prov. 11:3

God bless you and yours,

Kevin
