SCC Covid-19 Update 8/5/2020

Dear SCC & Friends,

Update #22

Is your glass half full…or half empty? I’ve read the end of the book, and we (the church) win. Hallelujah! It’s between the beginning and end that we struggle. Years ago, Reggies Wenyika was speaking at SCC and said, “When God closes one door, He opens another, but it can be hell in the hallway.” How many times has the hallway limited our perspective of God? How many times has the hallway been all we can see? I remain a “glass-half-full kind of person.” COVID-19 is a hallway we all must maneuver. In the midst, we have many opportunities to live and practice our faith…We can encourage. We can call on the phone or text. We can find the Lord’s purpose both at home and work. We can FaceTime, Zoom, collaborate and discuss. We can meet outside in a prayer setting or enjoy a meal with a few friends. We can spend time in His Word…We can worship…And in and through it all, we can continue to seek the Kingdom of God. We can carry burdens for one another, be generous, smile, laugh at ourselves, share our faith and remain grateful for what we do have. You are the light of the world…Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. ~Matt. 5:14-16

If you are a “glass-half-empty person,” how is that working for you? What else can go wrong? As my kids used to say on long car rides, “How much further?” We all go through uncertainty and struggle, but God has given us the ability to overcome even in unforeseen and difficult circumstances. The key is not to let discouragement or doubt have the final say…or be allowed to control our attitude or emotions. God is at work “even and especially in the hallway.” We are exhorted…Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore… ~Eph. 6:11-14 “On Christ the solid Rock we stand…all other ground is sinking sand…”

Keep up the good work! You were made for such a time as this….Let’s focus on what we do have rather than what we don’t have. Thank you for your faithfulness!

Our God Reigns!
