Dear SCC & Friends,
Do not say, “Why is it that the former days were better than these? For it is not from wisdom that you ask about this.” ~Ecclesiastes 7:10
Update #35
How do we look at our nation and the world? Solomon wrote, That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So, there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one might say, “See this, it is new”? Already it has existed for ages which were before us. ~Ecc. 1:9-10 In truth, we have new things, coupled with incredible new technologies, but the central issues of life and the human experience remain the same in every generation. Victor Frankl, eminent psychiatrist and holocaust survivor wrote, “The last freedom of the human soul is to choose one’s response to the circumstances of life.” Yesterday I joined in prayer with many others for God’s will regarding our local, state and national elections. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord… May the Lord’s counsel be our hope and prayer, and may we choose our responses in ways that please God.
Whether you are super elated or sorely disappointed with the unfolding results of the election, know for sure that God alone owns the future! Remember, He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords! There will be no end to the increase of His government or peace ~Isa. 9:7…but indeed, as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord. ~Num. 14:21 The Lord has been at His redemptive work through all the ages to reconcile men and women to Himself. When we are honest about the “good ole days,” we have to admit every generation has had its own measure of pain, war, disease, genocide, famine, poverty and the like…Nothing new under the sun, but circumstances can be very new to us. COVID will pass, elections will pass, but Jesus remains…the same yesterday and today and forever. ~Heb. 13:8 Scripture admonishes us that it’s not from wisdom that we say the former times were better. These present times are the best, because these are the only days of life we have…to know love and serve God and to love our neighbor as ourselves. These are the best days regardless of where you live, what you look like, what you’ve been through, or what an uncertain future holds, and the Lord is with you! Keep up the good work!
God bless you and yours!
