Dear SCC & Friends,
…for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. ~2 Corinthians 8:21
Update #36
This week’s update is dedicated to prayer and thankfulness for our nation and its people, for our churches and institutions, but especially for our veterans and their families. Patriotism takes many forms, but none more so than to thank and honor those who went before us to secure our freedom. On the 11th hour, the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice of “the war to end all wars” was signed. Today, on this Veteran’s Day, we stop to honor and remember that freedom is not free.
…Let Us Pray…
Lord, we pray to You who alone knows all things. Your Word tells us that even the future is passed by to You. You have so richly blessed our nation, with men and women willing to serve and sacrifice for the cause of freedom…” We owe so much to them. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” ~1 Jn. 3:16 We lift up in prayer all the men and women of our armed forces – our Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce and Coast Guard, deployed to difficult and hostile areas of the world to protect and defend; seeking not to conquer but to establish peace and security. We pray Your favor on the families who carry a unique burden and constant awareness that only a military family can know. We thank You for those who have returned and pray for Your healing hand on those who have been wounded, be it physical or emotional. We ask for Your grace and favor on their lives, especially Your comforting presence to families who have experienced the ultimate sacrifice and will never see their loved ones again.
Today we invoke Your blessing, as we honor and express our deep gratitude to all the veterans who have gone before us…in jungles, deserts or mountains, on land, sea and air, whether on the front lines or in support; they have served with noble distinction and courage for our good. We would not have the heritage and posterity of liberty without their sacrifice. Even today at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, VA, a wreath is laid, taps are played and the changing of the guard takes place every half hour, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, reminding us that freedom comes at great price and endures at great price. We pray for all the Veterans and active duty personnel throughout our nation and ask Your redemptive purpose and blessing be upon them in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior! Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. ~ Ps. 144:15Keep up the good work!
God bless you,
Kevin
