Dear SCC & Friends,
There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven…A time to weep, and a time to laugh… ~Ecc. 3:1, 4a
Update #46
Irony is one of my favorite forms of humor…It’s expressing a sense contrary to that which the speaker intends to convey. Yogi Berra, the Hall of Fame catcher for the New York Yankees was known for his malapropisms…using an incorrect word in place of another, resulting in nonsensical and often humorous utterances…90% of the game is half mental or Always go to other people’s funerals, or they won’t come to yours. My favorite is, It’s too crowded, nobody goes there anymore.
It’s good to laugh. A joyful heart is good medicine. ~Prov. 17:22 It’s healing to laugh…to laugh at ourselves and the many incongruities of life. Abraham was 99 years old and laughed when God told him he’d have an heir. Likewise, Sarah laughed when she was told she would bear a son in her old age. One year later, Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.” ~Gen. 21:6 The child of promise was born, and they named him Isaac, which means laughter. God does the impossible in the midst of the improbable. By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised; therefore, also, there was born of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.~Heb. 11:11-12
We are to take our burdens and responsibilities seriously, but not at the expense of joy which is our strength. Some years ago, before we went to sleep, Dudley accidentally said a “malapropism” that hit both our funny bones. We couldn’t stop laughing…Looking back it wasn’t even that funny but had both of us crying with laughter and we couldn’t stop. It was healing, and I think the Lord knew we needed that medicine. Let’s continue to pray for our country, community and neighborhood. The joy of the Lord is our strength, and with that joy comes gratitude and gladness. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” ~Ps. 126:2 Keep up the good work!
Blessings,
Kevin
