Dear SCC & Friends,
Update #15
But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good. 2 Thess. 3:13 Apparently, we can get weary (tired, fatigued, inured, bothered, frustrated) which is not good but very real for many of us. How do we overcome setbacks and despair in the midst of a global pandemic, intense social unrest and economic uncertainty? How do we stay focused on the eternal in the midst of the temporal? I’ve got some good and practical news – Good because it’s a promise and practical because it’s at the core of our journey with the Lord, and it is something we can do with real results. Listen…
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:28-31 WOW!
We were made for such a time as this, and it’s in waiting (“stilling ourselves”) before the Lord that we will gain new strength. – Turkeys flap their wings and cannot fly, using enormous energy to accomplish very little. On the other hand, eagles mount up and with a few powerful strokes majestically soar into a thermal current. Amazingly, eagles glide on power from another source. It’s a picture of trust and letting the Holy Spirit guide and empower us. St. Augustine said it well, “You have made us for yourself and our hearts are restless (anxious) until they find their rest in You.” No matter what we face, our hearts are restless until we find our rest in Him. May the Lord renew our strength to love and serve in this unique time God has given us.
We have had two outdoor meetings, and tonight the ladies meeting will be our third. Our church is not closed, it’s simply not meeting on Sunday morning for the time being. Jesus said, I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it, so we are in good shape. Keep up the good work! God bless you!
Yours in His kingdom,
Kevin
