Dear SCC & Friends,
Update #13
It takes a lot to knock COVID 19 off the front page. We are all painfully aware and deeply saddened by the circumstances and tragic events regarding the death of George Floyd. Many people are on edge, justifiably frightened and concerned both for their neighborhoods and the nation as a whole. Many peaceful protests have turned violent, as we watch opportunists and anarchists spark chaos and bedlam in our streets. People who were just on the cusp of re-opening their places of business have seen their stores vandalized, looted and set on fire…others have resorted to boarding up their doors and windows. The anger and hurt is very real and very deep. Last week I spoke on the blessing of unity. This week we can put it into practice. …being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph. 4:3
The reality is that we are men and women of Spirit. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. 2 Cor.10:3-5 There are many practical things to do…People helping the cleanup – others providing care and comfort to those directly impacted. We need to remember that prayer is practical, and ultimately the most effective. Let’s join together to pray for peace and for the healing so desperately needed. I’d like to ask as many of you that can join me for prayer tomorrow evening (Wednesday, June 3) at 7:00 p.m., in the back church parking lot. We’ll have chairs. Please be mindful of social distancing. No childcare, but praying children are more than welcome. God bless you! See you tomorrow.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. Philippians 4:6-8
Yours in His amazing grace,
Kevin
