Happiness is a pursuit not a guaranteed outcome. Human history is a clash of “isms.” The ideals of the Declaration transcend all the “isms.” God-given self-evident truths point us to higher ground, even when we the people fall short. An “ism” can be defined as a distinctive practice, system or philosophy, typically a political ideology or an artistic movement…Modernism, Humanism, Communism, Capitalism, Racism, Secularism, Materialism, Individualism, Socialism, Atheism…on and on it goes. Some “isms” are inherently bad, as they deny God and control man through force and intimidation to fit their agenda. Other “isms” may have good intentions but inherently implode because of the human heart. The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds. Jeremiah 17:9-10
We are exhorted to Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 It is distressing to see the tumult, turmoil and division in our nation. It’s not the first time, nor will it be the last. Jesus said in John 16:33, These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world. COVID 19 continues to be a thorn in our side requiring mutual patience and cooperation. The light in the tunnel is there, but it flickers, and the goal posts have been moved a number of times. So, what will we do? Get irritable, blame, complain or pontificate? I’ve probably, at one time or another, done all of these over the past three months…But today is a new day! It is a day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it! Let’s choose to pray for our nation, abide in His Word, give thanks and encourage others with our words and deeds. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Have a great 4th of July…and keep up the good work!
