SCC Covid-19 Update 9/30/20

Dear SCC & Friends,

And my God shall supply all your NEEDS according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. ~Philip. 4:19

Update #30

One of the earliest lessons in life is the difference between a need and a want. Distinguishing between needs and wants are markers on the road to maturity. Dudley and I have been blessed with ten grandchildren, and it is so enjoyable to see them develop at various stages of life. Two of these beautiful cherubs are ages one and under. Needs and wants are one and the same to them. In fact, they let you know right away if they don’t get what they want, and rarely show a bit of gratitude. We love them, enjoy them, but it would be tragic if they were left to never mature beyond self-centeredness. We adults have some of the same challenges…The Lord has called us to live by faith. It’s a sacrificial journey to know and love God…a journey of grace requiring us to pick up our cross, deny ourselves and follow Him. ~Matt. 16:24

Our needs are not just materialistic or psychological, but deeply spiritual and integral to all of life. How many times has a kind word or unexpected blessing met a need we didn’t even know we had? How many times has the Lord come through when we didn’t see an answer? Needs are essential to life, wants are just that…wants. So often in life and circumstance we focus on want we don’t have, rather than being attentive and grateful for what we do have. We are all a work in progress. COVID continues to bring out our best, but occasionally we fall short. Regardless of our shortcomings, He remains faithful to help us, meeting pressing needs in timely fashion… as we press on to maturity… ~Heb. 6:1 The Potter knows what He is doing as He shapes the clay. In the meantime, nothing escapes His eye or attention…God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. ~Eph. 3:20 (The Message) Keep up the good work!

Our God reigns!
