Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 1/22/25

Dear SCC & Friends,

The secret of the Lord…~Psalm 27:14

Reflection #255

A secret is something kept or meant to be kept unknown or unseen by others. Conversely, some secrets are meant to be shared. People often ask an older couple who have been married for many years, “So what’s your secret?” An aspiring businessman might ask an established executive, “What’s the secret of your success?” In that sense, a secret is not something not to be known, rather it’s applying that which we can know in the best possible way. Undoubtedly our actions speak louder than words… The Lord sees all things at all times, and nothing we do or say will escape His eye. The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him. ~Ps. 27:14 If we fear Him (revere, adore, trust, love and obey), we will share in the key secret to wisdom and understanding… The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. ~Prov. 9:10 ~Selah~

When we were first married, my wife had a job with a national defense contractor that required a “top secret clearance.” They even had a special furnace to burn the trash at the end of the day. I used to joke with her that if she told me about her day she’d have to kill me. Security clearances in government are given on a need-to-know basis. They are designed to protect information and personnel from being improperly exposed or exploited. All of us have a God-given security clearance at some level. The Lord both conceals and reveals. The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us… ~Deut. 29:29 Misplaced fear drives us from God, while fear of God is a treasure that drives us to God. The fear of God is a secret to be known… And His mercy is for those who fear Him from generation to generation. ~Lk. 1:50… Keep up the good work!

Made for these days,

Kevin
