Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 1/8/25

Dear SCC & Friends,

…like a lost sheep… ~Psalm 119:176

Reflection #253

Have you ever seen a lost child at a shopping mall? It is so sad…the sobbing tears and eyes full of fright. No one can calm the situation like a loving Mom when she arrives on the scene… “Oh my gosh… I was so worried about you. I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” The child’s heaves start to subside and slowly the fear ebbs. Hugs and soothing words bring the little one back from a lost place of desperation and panic to a found place of comfort, belonging and love. That picture reminds me of God’s abiding love. No matter who we are He sees our plight… What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ~Lk. 15:4-6 It is astounding that the Creator of all things, the Alpha and Omega of time and eternity would single out and rejoice over one lost sheep. Yet, He does and ever will. …I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you. ~Heb. 13:5

A former slave trader, who would one day become a pastor said it all… Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found was blind but now I see. ~John Newton …I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly. ~Jn. 10:10 The Lord had one thing to gain in His earthly sojourn…you and me… Jesus never gives up and neither should we. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. ~Lk. 19:10… Never cease loving a person, and never give up hope for him, for even the prodigal son who had fallen most low, could still be saved; the bitterest enemy and also he who was your friend could again be your friend; love that has grown cold can kindle. ~Søren Kierkegaard… He guides us in concert with the Holy Spirit to help lost people find their way back to Him. There is no pit too deep or prodigal too far gone not to be found in Christ. Keep up the good work!

Made for these days,

Kevin
