Dear SCC & Friends,
…overflowing with gratitude. ~Colossians 2:7
Reflection #247
Happy Thanksgiving! I love this time of the year… the beginning of the holiday season. The word holiday is a derivative of holy day… setting aside time to reflect and refresh. We are exhorted to overflow with gratitude as a byproduct of our faith in Christ. An overflow is evidenced when something cannot be contained. My cup runneth over is a word picture of abundant blessing and expression beyond limits. I don’t know if I’ve ever encountered a truly happy person who is ungrateful nor a truly grateful person who is unhappy. Gratitude helps us to be “other focused” both as a disposition and expression of our hearts. …in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. ~Thess. 5:18 Gratitude is an offering precious in the sight of God, and it is one that the poorest of us can make and be not poorer but richer for having made it. ~A.W. Tozer~
I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart… ~Ps. 9:1 When our daughter Erin was a little girl, she and I used to play the “thank you game,” where each of us would go back and forth saying different things we were thankful for… I highly recommend it… It had no time limits or rules and went something like this… “Thank you Lord for my eyes, my arms, my teeth, my hair, my lips, my eyelashes, my feet, my nose, my toes, my fingers, my mom, my dad, my grandparents, my sister, my brother, my friends, my cousins, our dog, our goldfish, our washing machine, our car, our van, my bike, my school, my teacher, the beach, the mountains, the ocean, the lake, the sun, the wind, the rain, our house, our water, my toys, our food, our clothes, our health, our church…” And it felt like we were just getting started. O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good… ~Ps. 106:1 We were made to overflow with gratitude… Keep up the good work!
Thank you Lord!
