Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 12/31/24

Dear SCC & Friends,

God created…~Genesis 1:1

Reflection #252

The very first verse of Scripture describes a creative act of God… In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ~Gen. 1:1 We were made by God to be creative. Our problem is all too often that we compare, and comparison has a debilitating effect… …when we measure ourselves by ourselves, and compare ourselves with ourselves, we are without understanding. ~2 Cor. 10:12 Where did Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci get their extraordinary creativity? They received from the same source all of us do. It is God who put a creative spark in each one of us according to His measure. He calls us to use and invest that which He has given us. Otherwise, we’ll become like the one who buried his talent to “play it safe” which accomplished nothing and displeased God. Human creativity extends far beyond the arts and sciences. It’s released in friendship, service, leadership, marriage, family and vocation. And God created man in His own image… ~Gen. 1:27

Solomon said there was nothing new under the sun… That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So, there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one might say, “See this, it is new”? Already it has existed for ages which were before us. ~Ecc. 1:9-10 Scripture often posits truth in tension… Nothing new under the sun, yet His mercies are new every morning. New means not existing before, but can also mean already existing but seen, experienced or acquired for the first time. We live by faith, knowing His mercies are not only new but will never run out. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning… ~Lam. 3:22-23 This new year is our time to sow creatively…and to know, love and serve the Lord from whom all good things come. We were made for these days… Keep up the good work!

Made in His image,

Kevin
