Dear SCC & Friends,
Don’t worry… ~Philippians 4:6
Reflection #154
When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had a lot of trouble in life, most of which never happened. ~Winston Churchill~ Psychologists have done extensive research on the impact of worry in our lives. The results are in, and it turns out ninety percent of what we worry about never happens. Furthermore, people handle the remaining ten percent much better than expected. Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength. ~Charles Spurgeon~ Worry ebbs as our faith rises, and faith prevails when we genuinely entrust our burdens to Him. …Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. ~Philip. 4:6 (MSG)
…Who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? ~Matt. 6:27 You can’t change the past but can ruin the present by worrying about the future. ~Anon.~ All of us worry at some level, but not so much when it comes to children. Two of our grandchildren are three years old. They are a delight and I greatly enjoy their free and unburdened spirit. They are not worried about their job, where they are going to college or who they are going to marry. They prefer cartoons over current events and playtime over political rancor. In a sense and for the most part, they are “free as a bird” and simply live in the moment. Jesus calls for us to be childlike… Childish has a negative connotation, but childlike is marked by innocence, trust and wonder. Truly I say to you, unless you are changed and become like children you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. ~Matt. 18:3 …do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself… ~Matt. 6:34 We were made for these days… Keep up the good work!
Trusting in Him,
Kevin
