Dear SCC & Friends,
…do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
~Hebrews 10:35
Reflection #104
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. It can be hard to throw things away. I have a favorite T-shirt that has been thrown away at least a half-dozen times but to no avail… I still have it and wear it on special occasions. I bought the T-shirt in Minnesota at our son’s wedding, nearly 20 years ago. It’s faded, looks like Swiss cheese, and sound protocol would call for the rag pile. I know it served its purpose, but I still enjoy the nostalgia it brings. I also have a number of old Bibles that are underlined and highlighted with copious notes in the margins…many of the pages are frayed and torn. Sometimes when I open one of my old Bibles it seems like the Scriptures come alive in new ways. It is the blending of the new and old that gives meaning and texture to life. …a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old. ~Matt. 13:52
Eventually, I’ll throw away that old T-shirt just before it disintegrates. I’ll also get rid of other memorabilia, or someone will get rid of it for me… It’s just stuff… For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. ~Tim. 6:6-7 One thing that we can keep both now and forever is our confidence in Christ. Our confidence in Him brings great reward in every season of life; be it Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven… ~Ecc. 3:1 The seasons change, and we change, but our Lord abides evermore the same, and the streams of His love are as deep, as broad and as full as ever. ~Charles Spurgeon~ Our confidence in Christ is to be the “be all and end all” of our earthly journey. …He commanded our fathers, to teach their children, that the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, that they may arise and tell them to their children, that they should put their confidence in God… ~Ps. 78:5-7a In that regard, things haven’t changed from 3,000 years ago – to teach and train our children and all our heritage to put their confidence in God… Indeed, there is great reward beyond what we know… God bless you! Keep up the good work!
Together in His love,
Kevin
