Dear SCC & Friends,
…founded upon the rock ~Matthew 7:25
Reflection #159
California has recently had a great deal of rain. Certain areas have experienced mudslides and flood related problems. The pelting rain takes a toll and reminds us of the importance of a good foundation. …like a wise man who built his house upon the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. ~Matt. 7:24-25 A foundation properly laid prepares us for the best and worst-case scenarios. In fact, everything proceeds from the foundation. There’s a story about a man who bought a beautiful new home but after a few months cracks started to surface on the walls. He hired an “expert” who said he could fix it by replastering and repainting. A few months later the cracks reemerged, so he hired another “expert” with the same result. Frustrated after spending time and money to no avail, he finally found the person who had the answer to his dilemma… “You don’t have a problem with your walls, the problem is your foundation… It’s shifting and lacks depth.”
A proper foundation determines a proper future. It starts with Jesus, the Cornerstone and Rock of our salvation… For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. ~1 Cor. 3:11 Jesus is both the rock and refuge in whom we live and move and have our being. The issue in life is not whether there will be storms… The issue is what we have built upon when the storm comes… solid rock or shifting sand? The old hymn says it well… On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand! We can be assured that our faith and the foundation will be tested. …knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. ~Jam. 1:3-4… our solid Rock, our powerful Shield… The Lord is with us now and forever. Keep up the good work!
Made for these days,
Kevin
