Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 4/9/25

Dear SCC & Friends,

…Your King is coming… ~John 12:15

Reflection #266

We will never know this side of heaven what terrible struggles took place in the spiritual world between Palm Sunday and Easter morning. ~Rodney Buchanan~ So many times Jesus told His disciples, “My time has not yet come,” but now His time had come… Today was the day to openly declare, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”The crowd that had been with Him when He called Lazarus from the tomb, raising him from the dead, was there giving eyewitness accounts. It was because they had spread the word of this latest God-sign that the crowd swelled to a welcoming parade. The Pharisees took one look and threw up their hands: “It’s out of control! The world has gone after Him. ~Jn 12:17-19 (MSG) They had to stop Him, but they could not… How could they reverse what had been prophesied twenty-five hundred years prior.…Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. ~Zech. 9:9

Hosanna is derived from two Hebrew words – Yasha, which means “to save and deliver” and Anna, which means “please, I beseech”… And many spread their garments in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields… and they were crying out, Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord…” ~Mk. 11:8-9 The King is coming… His death would be our life. No one took His life… He freely gave it. It would be five days later that joyful cries of “Hosanna”would be replaced with angry shouts to “Crucify Him!” What a difference a few days can make in thoughts, words and deeds. Jesus was condemned to the cross at Golgotha, where God’s justice and endless mercy would forever be reconciled… He did it all for us! If we were hundred times worse than we are, our sins would be no match for His mercy. ~Tim Keller~ The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. ~Lam. 3:22 We were made for these days… Keep up the good work!

Hosanna!

Kevin
