Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 6/5/24

Dear SCC & Friends,

The fool has said… ~Psalm 53:1

Reflection #222

It’s been said that no one is a fool always, but everyone is a fool sometimes. ~Anon.~ Fool or foolish occurs well over 300 times in Scripture and speaks of someone who refuses to listen to wisdom or learn from discipline… A fool is a person devoid of wisdom, lacking in sound judgment, discretion and common sense. Wise people will meet the demands of life, while foolish people demand that life meets their demands. The Latin derivative of fool is follis (folly) meaning windbag and empty headed. A fool does not delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own mind. ~Prov. 18:2…a cloud without rain…a well without water… A foolish person is indifferent to God and even goes so far as to deny God’s very existence. The fool has said in his heart, “there is no God.” ~Prov. 14:1 When a man ceases to believe in God he does not believe in nothing, he believes almost anything. ~G.K. Chesterton~ The wisdom to believe in Christ is a gift from God… He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. ~Jim Elliott~

Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. I confess… I admit it… there was a time in my life when I was starring in my own movie. I had graduated from college, survived Viet Nam and was headed to law school. God in His mercy opened my heart and made it very clear that “my movie” was getting very bad reviews, and my “acting days” were over. Polar opposite of fool and folly is wisdom and authenticity. Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal and are all the greater fools for it… There is no fool so great as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.~Charles Spurgeon~ Solomon touched the heart of God when he humbly asked for wisdom… the antidote for the foolish heart… But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him, but he must ask in faith. ~Jam. 1:5 …That’s a promise! Keep up the good work!

Made for these days,

Kevin
