Dear SCC & Friends,
…a watch in the night. ~Psalm 90:4
Reflection #228
Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. ~1 Cor. 16:13 The Jews like Greeks and Romans, divided the night into military watches instead of hours. There were three watches… sunset to 10:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. to sunrise. Nearly every former military person knows what it is to pull guard duty which at times can seem routine and uneventful. Even so, vigilance and discernment are paramount, as they are our first line of defense. Military guards are trained to follow specific protocols and have authority to challenge intruders… Halt! Who goes there? Spiritually speaking, we are all gatekeepers and equally responsible to challenge what comes in and out of our lives. It is a life-long process to guard our hearts with intentionality and focus. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. ~Prov. 4:23
Today is the present at which time touches eternity. ~C.S. Lewis~ That which is has been already, and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by. ~Ecc. 3:15 Time marches on, and it goes so fast… our earthly lives are mere handbreadths – “Swoosh”- Here today and gone tomorrow… Redeeming time is one thing, but getting it back is quite impossible… Where did the time go? Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow. ~Ps. 144:4The Lord, in His sovereignty, operates on a much different timetable… For a thousand years in God’s sight are like yesterday when it passes by, or as a watch in the night. ~Ps. 90:4 A millennium (1024 AD to 2024 AD) is simply “a mere watch in the night” to the Lord. He sees the end from the beginning… Nothing escapes His eye as we stand our post and serve Him… The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever. ~Ps. 121:8 What a mighty God we serve… Keep up the good work!
Standing firm,
Kevin
