Weekly Reflection From Pastor Kevin 7/24/24

Dear SCC & Friends,

Give us this day… ~Matthew 6:11

Reflection #229

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you… ~Jam. 4:8 The Lord calls us to walk one day at a time. So often past hurts and future concerns rob us of the present tense joy and blessings of life… Give us this day our daily bread speaks of God’s blessing and provision in the here and now. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, today is a gift of God which is why we call it the present. ~Keane~ At the heart of the Lord’s Prayer is a pathway of implied access… Give us… but not for yesterday or tomorrow but today… This is the day the Lord has made…~Ps. 118:24 The Lord is not the “Great I Was” or the “Great I Will Be”… He is the Great I Am… Daily bread speaks of “nowness”… It is our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received. ~C.S. Lewis~ …And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. ~1 Jn. 5:14

Today is all we have until tomorrow. So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom. ~Ps. 90:12 To number our days speaks of being mindful and aware of our earthly mortality. …the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them. ~Ps. 139:16b It is wisdom to reflect, meditate and glorify all that God has done. Numbering our days leads to “remembering”, and what comes to mind are the countless times He has given us daily bread. In fact, numbering our days is really a reflection and recollection of “daily bread prayers” that have been answered… The Lord has provided and blessed each and every one of us… in season and out of season… I shall remember the deeds of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate on all Your work, and muse on Your deeds.~Ps. 77:11-12 May we always ask for the daily bread He gives which sustains each one of us to this very hour. Keep up the good work!

Numbering our days,

Kevin
