Dear SCC & Friends,
…enter His rest… ~Hebrews 3:18
Reflection #233
Getting more done in less time may be efficient, but it does not come without a price. The Lord has given us much to do, and it is rest that gives healthy balance. Rest means to cease work or movement, to refresh and recover strength. It’s the sabbath principle of ceasing from our labors and entering into His rest and renewal… For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. ~Heb. 4:10 I’ve even wondered how sleep can be an efficient use of our time… lying in a semi-conscious state eight hours a day and not in control of circumstances or outcomes. It’s a challenging thought when I consider that I’ve slept over twenty-five years of my life. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, you only get 24 hours a day… no more, no less. It is entering into His rest that makes all the difference. In the most restless age of history, Christ can give you rest that will endure the ravages of time and will abide through all eternity. ~Billy Graham~ Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.~Matt. 11:28 ~Selah~
Next week, I go back to Virginia to honor my older brother as he will be laid to his final rest. He was a life-long companion and mentor to me. My brother had a one-of-a-kind grit, coupled with simple faith and remarkable courage… He became a lawyer and I became a minister… He often joked that if I did a better job as a minister, his legal services would not be in such demand. As children, we had so much fun and adventure… a “Huckleberry Finn” boyhood in the midst of faith, family and friends. He was always there for me, protecting, advising and caring. He impacted me more than I can ever know, and I already miss him… but know we will meet him again. He fought the good fight, he finished the course, he kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to him on that day; and not only to him, but also to all who have loved His appearing. ~2 Tim. 4:7-8…made for these days… Keep up the good work!
Resting in the Lord,
Kevin
