Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 9/18/24

Dear SCC & Friends,

…God my refuge ~Psalm 73:28

Reflection #237

The most amazing things in life tend to happen right at the moment we’re about to give up hope. ~Anon.~ Would we be better off if we erased every past failure or disappointment? Would rewriting our past create a better version of ourselves? The truth is we actually need adversity and setbacks to mature. Nothing is wasted… Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all. ~Ps. 34:19 None of us seek out crisis or conflict, yet trials inevitably appear at regular intervals throughout our lifetimes… Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come… Jesus specializes in bringing something very good out of that which is very bad. There is no pit too deep… no storm too powerful… no sin too great… no temptation too strong that cannot be overcome in and through our Lord. God’s love and purpose for us is far bigger than past failures or present troubles… He alone owns the future… But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. ~Rom. 8:37

He who has God has everything; and he who has everything but God has nothing. ~Augustine~ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ~Ps. 46:1 The Hebrew translation of very present mean’s manifestly and/or tangibly present… We are in His care, and our hope originates and endures through a living relationship with the Lord in whom we abide. …the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge… ~Ps. 73:28 A refuge is a place or condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger or trouble. The Lord has not promised to keep us out of danger or trouble but has promised to be with us no matter what we face… He who calls us also equips us with all we need…We were made for these days… O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! ~Ps. 34:8 Keep up the good work!

Our refuge and strength,

Kevin
